What's Included

When you purchase our theme from Themeforest. You can download Presso files from Themeforest > Your Account > Downloads.

Navigate through your purchased items and find Presso theme. Click download button then you will see 2 options. Main file contain everything. Installable Wordpress Theme is included only installable Wordpress theme file. Check list of what's included when you download the main file option.

  1. Installable Theme File (.zip) - You can upload this file to your Wordpress to install the theme.
  2. Documentation - Contain theme documentation file.
  3. Licensing Folder - Contain all licensing info files.
  4. Plugins Folder - Contain all required plugin files.

Theme Support

All of our themes come with free support and currently we handle all support questions through item's comment page on themeforest or using contact form on my profile page.

In order to help speed up solution for your requests. Please follow steps below before submitting a new ticket. This is for the benefit of everyone in order to help find the solution for your question quickly.

  1. Make sure you are running the latest version of theme and the latest version of WordPress.
  2. Check out theme documentation for the answer to your question.
  3. Disable any additional 3rd party plugins you are using to check if it fixes the issue.
  4. If you still have the issue. Submit a ticket with URL of page which has issue.

Theme Requirements

In order to proceed with the theme installation, you must be running WordPress 4.0 or higher, PHP 5.3 or higher.


Theme Download

Navigate to your downloads tab on Themeforest and find Presso. Click the download button to see the two options. The Main Files contain everything (including documentation) and the Installable WordPress Theme is just the installable WordPress theme file. Please download the Installable WordPress Theme file for installation.


Theme Installation via Wordpress

  1. Download the Installable Theme File (.zip) from Themeforest.
  2. Navigate to Appearance → Themes.
  3. Click Install Themes and hit the upload button
  4. Navigate to find the presso.zip file on your computer and click Install Now
  5. Wait while the theme is uploaded and installed.
  6. If you've found the below message and can't install the theme. Please make sure you've selected the wordpress installable file. (You need to download the Installable Wordpress File Only from ThemeForest download page. More detail at the topic "Theme Download" above)
  7. Activate the newly installed theme. Go to Appearance → Themes and activate it.
  8. Click the link Begin install plugins to install and activate the required plugins.

Theme Installation via FTP (alternate method)

  1. Download the Installable Theme File (.zip) from Themeforest.
  2. Log into your hosting space via an FTP software.
  3. Unzip the presso.zip file and ONLY use the extracted Presso theme folder.
  4. Upload the extracted Presso theme folder into wp-content/themes folder.
  5. Activate the newly installed theme. Go to Appearance → Themes and activate it.
  6. Install and activate the required plugins. Please see the previous method.

Migrating From Another Theme

If you are migration from a theme which used the native featured images functionality of WordPress. Please use the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin to resize all the thumbnails for better image quality on your site. Click the link above and download the free plugin, and read through the steps it contains, it has all the information you need.


Plugins Installation

We recommend you to install these plugins to get more from the theme.

  • Presso Shortcodes - This is our easy to use and intuitive shortcodes generator. Read more about our Shortcodes in chapter 10.
  • Presso Demo Installer - Import demo content into your site.


Other plugins we recommend to you to install (optional):

  • Envato WordPress Toolkit - WordPress toolkit for Envato Marketplace hosted items. Currently supports the following theme functionality: install, upgrade, & backups during upgrade. After you've activate this plugin, Follow these steps
    1. To establish an Envato Marketplace API connection navigate to the `Envato Toolkit` page and insert your Marketplace username and secret API key in the designated input fields.
    2. To obtain your API Key, visit your “My Settings” page on any of the Envato Marketplaces.
    3. Once the API connection has been established you will see a list of themes that can be auto installed or updated.
  • WP Super Cache - A very fast caching engine for WordPress that produces static html files.
  • Regenerate Thumbnails - Useful if your site already have a lot of content and images. Allows you to delete all old images size and regenerate the thumbnails for your image attachments.
  • WP User Avatars - Avatars for your users, without Gravatar.
  • Ninja Forms - Create forms and manage submissions easily with a simple drag and drop interface. Contact forms, subscription forms, or any other form for WordPress.

Improving Site Speed

You can improve site speed by using a third-party plugins. Please check this instruction.


Demo Content Import (optional)

The theme comes with a .xml file containing demo content you can import into your WordPress site. This will help you get started, in case you are running on a fresh WP installation with no content at all.

Please do not import content on a WordPress installation that already has a lot of content. Or the very least, make a backup first. A catastrophic mess can be created.
The images which you seen on demo site are not included due to a license of images. A placeholder image will be a subtitute.

1-Click Demo Content Installation

  1. Please make sure all required plugins are already installed.
  2. Install and activate plugin Presso Demo Installer.
  3. Navigate to Appearance > Import Demo.
  4. Choose a demo template to be imported and Click on Import Demo Data button to start import. Please be patience as it will take quite some time. Do not interrupt it.
  5. If you see some messages about failed to import media, It's ok to ignore that. But if you need all demo images to be shown on your site, Please import again.
  6. If you see a dupicated menu items after importing, It's caused from importing several times. You can delete a duplicated menu item.
After importing demo content, Please install the Presso Shortcodes plugin. The demo content is required this plugin.

By default, when you activated theme. Your homepage will display your recent posts and you can change its option. From your admin sidebar Settings → Reading → Front page displays select Your latest posts. You can also change number of blog posts per page there too.


Change Homepage/Blog Layout

You can customize homepage layout. Go to Theme Options → Blog → Default Layout and select layout you want then save changes. The selected layout will be applied to all archive pages. ex. category, archive etc.


Create Homepage Using Simple Page Composer

  1. Navigate to: Pages → Add New.
  2. Enter the title for this page: "Home page" or "Home", whatever you like.
  3. We prefer to use the Simple Page Composer to create the home page.
  4. Click Publish.

After selecting the Simple Page Composer template (at Page Template dropdown) you will see the Page Composer interface which easily lets you create the homepage layout. To get started click on the Add Row button and you will see all the available sections you can add to your homepage.


  • Post Slider - Display a posts as a slider
  • Post Box - Display a posts from the selected category.
  • Post Box with Sidebar - Display a posts from the selected category and sidebar.
  • 3 Sidebars - Display 3 sidebars in a row.
  • 2 Sidebars - Display 2 sidebars in a row.
  • Full Page Link Section - Display big image as a link to the selected page.
  • Custom Content - Display your content in theme style. Shortcode can be used in the content.

  1. Make sure the plugin WordPress Popular Posts is already installed
  2. Create new page by using Simple Page Composer for displaying a trending posts
  3. Add a Post box with sidebar section and set the section option Posts Order to Daily Trending Views, save after finish.
  4. Create 2 pages for displaying Hot and Popular with the same method as above (but choose a differnt posts order option, Weekly Trending Views and Monthly Trending Views).
  5. Navigate to Theme Options > Header > Header Ads and enter the below shortcode

    Don't for get to change the value of IMAGE_ID_FOR_POPULAR_POSTS, PAGE_ID_FOR_POPULAR_POSTS, IMAGE_ID_FOR_HOT_POSTS, PAGE_ID_FOR_HOT_POSTS, IMAGE_ID_FOR_TRENDING_POSTS and PAGE_ID_FOR_TRENDING_POSTS to the related item id.
  6. Save and done

Setting up categories for this theme is no different than ordinary category setup in WordPress, however, we provide some additional layout settings.

Go to Posts → Categories and fill in the info required.

Adding a new post is the same way as default WordPress installations (just navigate to Posts → Add New), however, there are extra options that might need explaining.


Post Options

You will see the following post options when adding a post.

  • Featured Post - Check to make the current post featured. Featured Posts Slider section must be added on the Homepage edit page.
  • Tagline - Enter a tagline for post.

Featured Image

While the theme can function without featured images, it's highly recommended that you add a featured image to each post. This not only makes your site/blog more lively but also improves user experience.

To set the featured image, use the WordPress normal method. Click Set featured image link in the Featured Image box and choose the image.

Recommended Image Size

Image size (dimensions) will depend on what type of layout you're using throughout your WordPress installation or per individual post basis. This image will not only be used on the post, but also on the category listing pages.

  • Compatible with all layouts and full-width slider - 1080 x 608 minimum (width x height). 1920 x 1080 is recommended.
  • For posts that will only appears in homepage blocks and listings - 335 x 186 minimum.

Featured Image Credits

You can insert a credit for a featured image by enter a credit message into a Caption field of image when you're selecting the image from Media Library.


Supported Post Formats

We enabled four WordPress native post formats. Each format has it's own custom fields (except Standard) for simple content making.

Video Format

WordPress supports embedding into posts by default. A video player will be inserted into the post.

  1. Click Add Media button.
  2. Select your video file. Once uploaded, make sure embed option is selected.
  3. Insert and Publish.

If you need to embed the external video, Just use the below options.

  1. Video Source - Copy the url of youtube or vimeo video page and paste the code in the Video Source.
Videos will be resized to fit the container.

Audio Format

WordPress supports embedding into posts by default. An audio player will be inserted into the post.

  1. Click Add Media button.
  2. Select your audio file. Once uploaded, make sure embed option is selected.
  3. Insert and Publish.

If you need to embed the external audio, Just use the below options.

  1. Audio URL - Copy the url of SoundCloud audio page and paste the code in the Audio Source.

Gallery Format

Setup your post normally and set a featured image. Next, Click Add to gallery button in the Gallery Options box and choose your images. You can re-arrange the order of image by dragging. The selected images will be displayed as image slider.

To insert a tiled gallery, Follow this steps:

  1. Click Add Media button just the above the editor. A media window will open.
  2. Click Create Gallery. Upload images or select from Media Library. Click Create a new gallery.
  3. Click Insert gallery.
  4. (optional) If you wish to use the gallery plugin like Jetpacks, You can turn of the built-in tiled gallery at Theme Options → General → Enable Custom Gallery.

Creating pages is a simple process. Please follow this steps:

  1. To start creating the pages navigate to Pages → Add New.
  2. Enter the page title.
  3. Enter the page content. You can also use a shortcode.
  4. (optional) Locate Page Options meta box on the page. The page options are the follows


Using Existing Menu

  1. Navigate to Appearance → Menus.
  2. In the Manage Locations tab, select the menu for each location.
  3. Click Save changes button.

Creating a New Menu

Follow the next steps to define menus for each of the theme's menu locations. In each menu, you can add as many items you need.

  1. Navigate to Appearance → Menus and click Add Menu.
  2. Give it a name in Menu name text box.
  3. Using the Custom Links and Pages boxes at the left, add items to the menu and drag/drop to arrange them.
  4. (optional) If you would like to use this menu in navigation, in the Menu Settings area, at the bottom, select the theme location for display this menu. Multiple theme location can be selected.
  5. Click Save Menu button.

Mega Menus

Them theme comes with mega menu for Main menu. You can show the menu items in multiple columns.

Add Mega Menu

  1. Go to to Appearance → Menus and select your menu.
  2. Add Category menu item as the root level of menu.
  3. Expand the item by clicking the arrow icon.
  4. Under Mega Menu Type, select any type of mega menu.
  5. Save Menu. Next configure sub-items (below).

Configure Mega Menu Items

To make mega-menu works, you have one additional step of adding sub-items.

For Columns List mega menu, The menu items in second level will be displayed as group headings. And the third-level menu items will be displayed as links under each group. Example:

Author Avatar

To make your author avatar to appear on your site, register at gravatar.com with the same email you registered at your wordpress site. Otherwise, You can install the WP User Avatars to upload the avatar image directly to your site.


Author's Social Icons

We added some extra fields to the user profile page to extend the information about the authors of your site. The added fields are: Social Profiles and a Custom Avatar upload instead of the default WP gravatar.

To add a new author and information that will be visible on the front, follow this steps:

  1. Navigate to: Users → Add New
  2. Name: Select Author in Role dropdown and select desired name in Display name publicly as dropdown
  3. Contact Info: Type the website address and fill all the desired fields with the link to your social site.
  4. About the user: Fill in the Biographical Info

The Theme Options Panel helps you easily take control over your site, by allowing you to upload your logo and favicon, style the appearance of the theme with your custom colors, change fonts, turn features on and off, paste custom CSS code, paste the Analytcs code without having to write any code.

To access the Theme Options panel, navigate to Theme Options.


Theme Customizer

You can try to adjust theme options with live preview by navigate to Appearance → Customizer


Import / Export the Options

After you create a set of settings, you might want to save your work. This is useful if you want to experiment with the options while keeping the old settings in case you need them again.

Navigate to the Theme Options → Import / Export tab and click the Download button. Once the download is finished, you will be able to restore your options by clicking the Import from file button, paste the data of downloaded file, and clicking the Import button.


Transfer Theme Options Data

You can tranfer the saved options data between different installs by clicking the Copy button and copying the text inside the text box. To import data from another install, click the Import from file button and paste the data in the text box with the one from another install and click Import.

Sidebars

The theme comes with 11 sidebars which you can use below sidebars for quick start building your site

  • Blog Sidebar - Displayed on all posts, single post page, categories and archives
  • Page Sidebar - Displayed on all static pages
  • Mobile Sidebar - Displayed in off-canvas menu (mobile only)
  • Footer Sidebar 1-4 - Displayed on footer.
  • Custom Sidebar 1-6 - Extra sidebar that you can use in Page Composer, Posts or Pages.

If you need to create more custom sidebar, You can create an extra sidebar at Theme Options → Generals → Sidebars → Additional Sidebars.


Widgets

All widgets can be used in standard Wordpress widget system in Appearance > Widgets. You can drag & drop the widget on the left side over sidebar option on the right side. Each widget has its settings option and you put as many widgets as you want to the sidebar. Once you change the setting of widget, please make sure you click Save button.

We have created a very nice and lightweight shortcode generator with very understandable and intuitive interface.

After installing the Presso Shortcodes plugin, navigate to any page or post where you want to add the shortcode. You will see a new button [sc] was added to the editor. Click on the button and you'll see the dropdown with all available shortcodes.

To start generating the shortcodes, make sure your mouse cursor is blinking inside the editor and click on one of the shortcode name. For some shortcodes, The shortcode will be inserted immediately. But for some shortcodes, The shortcode options will be shown. You can set the shortcode options and click Insert Shortcode.

  • pagination - Type of pagination navigation. The value can be hide, numeric, infinite, infinite-auto.
  • avoid_duplicate - Don't show a post that already displayed in the another section. The value can be true, false.

There are two ways to customize the theme without changing it's core files.

Please note that any bugs from theme modification and the theme modification are not included in the support.

1. Using Theme Options Panel

Please navigate to Theme Options → Custom CSS and insert your own CSS here.

2. Using Child Theme

The theme comes with it's Child Theme. If you want more complex cutomization of the parent theme and change the files, layout, html, objects order this way is even better. To start using child follow this steps:

  1. Navigate to Appearence → Themes
  2. Click the second tab "Install Themes" at the top and click the link Upload
  3. Now locate the presso-child.zip inside the /Theme Files folder which you have downloaded from ThemeForest and double click on that file.
  4. Click the Install Now button and after the theme is installed, Activate it

That is it, now the child theme is ready. You can open the /presso-child/style.css file and write your CSS there. It will override the default the CSS from the parent theme. You can also copy any file from the parent theme, put it inside the child them and make the changes.

It's important not to touch the theme core files because every time we will update the theme, you will loose you changes. Using child theme is recommended.

Adding a Custom Blog Layout

We prepared a custom layout option for displaying a posts on category page and blog page. We call it the "Post Box". Adding a custom blog layout is very easy, Just edit or override these template files from child theme:

  • For Custom 1 option - The template file of layout is /presso/templates/loop/loop-custom-1.php
  • For Custom 2 option - The template file of layout is /presso/templates/loop/loop-custom-2.php
  • For Custom 3 option - The template file of layout is /presso/templates/loop/loop-custom-3.php
  • For Custom 4 option - The template file of layout is /presso/templates/loop/loop-custom-4.php

Additional Information For Developers

This section will give you an information for playing with the code of theme.

  • You can find the action name that available in this theme by searching the word vww_action_
  • You can find the filter name that available in this theme by searching the word vww_filter_
  • You can find the constant name that can be configured by searching the word VWW_CONST_. Some constant can be used for configuration but some constant is just a toggle for disable some part.
  • All template files that can be overriden from child theme are stored in /presso/templates/*. You can copy file from the parent theme and placed in the child theme at the same folder structure.
  • You can override the theme functions from child theme by define the same function name (and same parameters) in the file /presso-child/functions.php

This theme is fully translation ready! The translation files .po/.mo are located in /presso/languages in the Themes folder. We've included English Translation right away.


To translate the theme, just follow these steps:

  1. Open presso.pot file using POEdit (http://www.poedit.net/)
  2. Click Create new translation button and choose the language.
  3. Translate the text.
  4. Hit save, a new .PO and .MO file will be created.
  5. Set the site language at Settings > General > Site Lanugage

To rename different Words, like "Read More", "Comments" etc, just follow these steps:

  1. Open presso.pot file using POEdit (http://www.poedit.net/)
  2. Click Create new translation button and choose the language.
  3. Translate the text.
  4. Hit save, a new .PO and .MO file will be created.
  5. Set the site language at Settings > General > Site Lanugage

We constantly develop new features, so after downloading a new Version we recommend to check that everything is translated correct.

Your Language & Localization

After translating, you may wish to use the correct locale to translate and localize your WordPress installation completely. Refer to Installing WordPress In Your Language at WordPress Codex to learn how to.


RTL Version

For languages that read from right-to-left unlike English which is left-to-right, Presso will automatically switch to an RTL style, as long as you it's in your language and uses the correct locale (as explained above).

When you've found the problem with theme, Please try the following steps for a basic troubleshooting:

  • Please make sure you're using the latest version of theme.
  • Refresh the browser to make sure the problem is not from browser's cache. Otherwise, Try it on a different browser.
  • Disable all plugins (except theme's plugins), including caching plugins to make sure the problem is not caused by any third-party plugins.

You can update your theme via FTP or via WordPress. See the information below for each method. No matter what method you choose, you first need to download the new theme files from Themeforest.

Do you want to update from Presso 2.x to 3.x ? Must read this information.
Updating the theme files does not affected to the settings. If you're concerns about data and settings, Please backup your wordpress before update.

How To Update Your Theme Via FTP
  1. Go to /wp-content/themes location and backup your presso theme folder by saving it to your computer, or you can choose to simply delete it. Your content will not be lost.
  2. Retrieve the presso.zip file from your new Themeforest download (only theme file) and extract the file to get the presso theme folder.
  3. Then simply drag and drop the new Presso theme folder into /wp-content/themes location. Choose to Replace the current one if you did not delete it.

How To Update Your Theme Via WordPress
  1. You need to deactivate the current Presso theme in the Appearance → Themes section by simply activating a different theme. Once you activate a different theme, you can delete the Presso theme. Dont worry, your content will not be lost.
  2. Retrieve the presso.zip file from your new Themeforest download (only theme file) and extract the file to get the presso theme folder.
  3. Then simply upload the presso.zip file in the Appearance → Themes section. Click on the Install Themes tab at the top and choose to upload the zip file.
  4. Once it uploads, choose to activate it. You’re done!

Since Presso 3.x has newly architecture to support future of magazine site, Migration from older Presso version (1.x or 2.x) is not strongly recommended. If you want to use Presso 3.x with the site that created with older Presso version, Please note that the following data will not be used in the new Presso version and you need to re-entry these data by manual.

By the way, We still support Presso 2.x for Wordpress compatibility and security issues until December 31, 2017. If an update for Presso 2.x is available, It will be included in the full package zip file (Please download All files from ThemeForest download page and the updated theme file will be located inside the zip file).
